How do birds stay warm in winter? With their downy feathers, of course — but a cozy scarf can’t hurt, either. Includes my curious discoveries on the back of each card. Blank inside.

Text on the back of this card:

At dusk in the colder months, crows often cuddle in crowds, a habit called winter roosting. The crowd can range from a couple hundred to a couple million birds! Apparently this is how they sleep and stay warm.

You’ve probably seen them like I have: while looking at the dark silhouette of a tree, you noticed the tree move, realizing only then that the dark “boughs” were actually bunches of birds.

Apparently gathering in bunches during the winter helps not only with warmth, but also with locating a mate before next spring’s breeding season. So that’s two good reasons for a snuggle!

And if the snuggling doesn’t work out, a crow could always don a stripey scarf to keep out the cold.
