Text on the back of this card:
A couple years ago I arrived home to a large snowman looking down from our front yard. The kids next door had built it for us. I thought this the most wonderful gift, and I smiled at it every day until it leaned over, dropped its hat on the ground, and eventually melted away.
My home state of Maine holds the record for the largest snow person. She was 121 feet tall with trees for arms, tires for buttons, and a 48-foot fleece hat.
The earliest record of a snowman, according to The Illustrated History of the Snowman, was drawn in the margins of an old (1350) prayer book. The snowman sits on a bench, pompom hat on his head, seemingly warming his backside to a fire. I’m not exactly sure how the snowman fit into the prayers, but perhaps it inspired the reader to run outside and gift a splendid snow sculpture to an unsuspecting neighbor, just like mine did for me.
