Supporting sustainability: 100% recycled post-consumer waste card and envelope; commercially compostable plastic sleeve.

Snowmen with big tires for buttons, Vikings wearing pompoms, and cats wearing hats — all the joys of winter! Includes my curious discoveries on the back of each card. Blank inside.

Text on the back of this card:

We call them tuques, beanies, and caps in varieties such as watch, snookie, woolly, tossle, skull, ski, and stocking.

And what about our penchant for pompoms on our hats? An old statue from the Viking period shows a Norse god with a pointy helmet and what seems to be a round pompom on top. Later, pompoms of different colors could suggest marital or military status.

Today, hat status might boil down to fashion sense. A quick search of the internet reveals the close-kept secrets of how to wear slouchy hats (just enough forehead, not too much ear) or beanies (fisherman-style suits a long head, a tall beanie is better for a round head). And much as I mocked these fashion-centric videos when I first saw them, I’ll most certainly take note of the proper tilt and angle (and the color of my pom) when I wear a hat this winter.
