Gathering seeds and twigs between seasons are the chickadee, bluejay, junco, cardinal and crow — with my curious discoveries about each on the back of the card.
Text on the back of this card:
Every year I read an article that dubiously asks, “Do you think animals could have… emotions?” I have to admit this dumbfounds me every time.
Enter the American crow, one of only 25 bird species (out of 10,500!) who’s been observed playing. By play we mean engaging in “activities that appear purposeless.” And perhaps this is the crux of the whole thing: we tend to believe that a (non-human) animal’s every move has to have a good reason.
Anyway.
Crows can remember faces of birds and humans for up to five years – and if it’s a face that hasn’t been nice to them, they’ll tell their family about it. So watch out.
